Beethoven Festival

To mark its 45th anniversary, the Bendigo Symphony Orchestra presents a bold and unprecedented musical event: a three-day Beethoven Festival, uniting four orchestras to perform the complete symphonic cycle of Ludwig van Beethoven. Hosted at the iconic Ulumbarra Theatre, this landmark event celebrates not only a composer whose music helped define the modern world, but also the visionary spirit of regional and national artistic collaboration.

The grand finale on Sunday afternoon unites forces for Beethoven’s mighty Symphony No. 9, featuring the newly formed BSO Chorus, guest soloists, and a massed BSO Festival Orchestra under the baton of Artistic Director Luke Severn. This festival is more than a concert series — it is a regional cultural beacon, which will welcome audiences and performers from across Australia and beyond for a once-in-a-generation experience of artistic depth, civic pride, and musical joy.

Night Music

When you commission a new work, you want everyone to have the chance to hear it.

That's why the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is touring the world premiere of Joe Chindamo's Flute Concerto. It will feature under the hands of Australia's most charismatic flutist Eliza Shephard. Whether you appreciate an artist's theatrical stage presence or astonishing technical skills, Shephard brings it all to the stage.

Chindamo is MSO's 2026 Composer in Residence and they are presenting another one of his Australian-composed works, Fantasie auf Nachtmusik. It reimagines Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik, so naturally they're pairing it with a composition by Mozart himself. But not the obvious one - MSO has picked the Linz symphony for you instead. When hearing a concert of rare works, why not take a chance on a lesser-performed Mozart too?

Bila's Big Dance

Introduce your children to the magic of live music with Orchestra Victoria!

The water in the Yaba River is low, the country is in a drought, the waterbirds are hungry. Bila the Spoonbill knows he must do something to help. A rain dance could be the answer. But will Bila be able to bring together the waterbird mob? And can he lead them in a grand enough dance to make the rain fall again?

Hear Rebbeca Chapman’s story of empathy, community and perseverance come to life through the sounds of wind, string percussion instruments at this special Musical Storytime composed by Tim Gray.

This relaxed, interactive performance invites children to participate in the storytelling and discover the sounds of different musical instruments. This is a perfect first musical experience for young people aged 5-8. Young (and young at heart) readers and music-lovers will be singing and dancing all the way home.

Woven Song

Celebrate Seymour Centre’s 50th anniversary and enjoy an evening of beautiful chamber music with the acclaimed Woven Song compositions of Yorta Yorta soprano, Deborah Cheetham Fraillon, accompanied by members of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music faculty, Opera Australia Orchestra, Friends of Ensemble Dutala and special guest artists Mindy Meng Wang (Guzheng) and Anne Norman (Shakuhachi).

A remarkable international collaboration of interconnected artforms and featuring new work commissioned for the anniversary, Woven Song is performed against projections of the magnificent Embassy Tapestries, currently on loan to embassies from Singapore to Paris, Tokyo to Dublin.

The tapestries that inspired the music were in turn inspired by artworks by celebrated First Nations artists, from Brooke Andrew to Patrick Mung Mung, Pedro Wanaeamirri to Elizabeth Marks Nakamarra – and each artwork, in turn, inspired by ancient indigenous stories.

Layer upon layer – stories, artworks, tapestries, music – Cheetham Fraillon gives voice to the material works, engaging in the telling of First Nations stories through a unique collaboration across cultures and art forms. She adds further depth by performing with musicians local to countries in which the tapestries are located, building international creative communities through music.

Gloriously presented in the Seymour Centre's York Theatre, this is a fitting way to commemorate the anniversary of Sydney's iconic performing arts centre, and to honour the land on which Seymour sits, which has always been a place of story, art and song.

Special Pre-Show Event
Join us for a special pre-show event in the York foyer from 7pm with a celebratory drink, a Welcome to Country, and an event welcome by Kirsten Andrews, Vice-Principal (External Engagement), University of Sydney.
